Turn Of Phrase - Final Crit before Christmas holidays

Right here is the first half of my book more or less complete, as you can see i have added more information and detail on the inside cover with fold out page. I have designed my own contemporary grid system of the football pitch on the fold out page, so that when the viewer flicks through the pages they can refer to the grid system and know exactly where the ball is on the pitch. I have also put information about the starting line up of the match, including players and formation.

I think the white screen print works very nicely on the green paper stock and really gives the impress of the football pitch; and all i need to do now is choose my paper stock for the body of my book, get the second half complete and finally make a slipcase for both books to sit in.

I am planning on getting both books perfect bound, where all pages are collated and then are glued at the spine and then glued to the book cover/book jacket.

Turn Of Phrase - Screenprints Part 2 (Includes Printing Process)

Ok, haven't updated my blog for a while for many reasons. Mainly because I have been focusing on my other university brief (work coming soon) and a dissertation which is due in a couple of weeks :/..scary stuff!!
Right back to the matter at hand! Here are a few snapshots of the Screenprinting process and the second half cover for my Turn Of Phrase book. Sorry about the quality of the photographs, they were taken on my iPhone lol! Screenprinting is a very nice process, which can produce beautiful outcomes, and I would recommend anyone to use it if they get the opportunity!
Trust me, it makes a change from staring at the computer screen designing stuff on Photoshop and Illustrator!!

Turn of Phrase - Screenprints

So I decided to change the cover of my book to a more subtle and clear cover. I chose to use a nice green paper stock for the cover of each book, so went out and bought/ordered samples of a good range. Hobby Craft, Fedrigoni and GFSmith are the main paper suppliers i went to; GFSmith from the previous posts i have put up. I wanted the cover to be green and have a texture so that it represented the football pitch, so decided to choose a range from 280-350gsm with various textures.
The type had to be white for obvious reasons, the lines on a football pitch are white, so i decided to use a screen printing method which has come out really nice.
Theres is an example of where the screenprint did not work print properly where the type is patchy and faded. But I like the visual look of it, as no lines on the football pitch are perfect and it just has that overall feeling that the pitch has been played on.

Turn Of Phrase - University Brief

Ok, so for this brief we had to pick any phrase we wanted, and visual portray it through the medium of an artist book or film/video/animation.

I picked the phrase 'Back To Square One', and have decided to gather inspiration from the origin on the phrase. I'm not going to bore you with the facts and dates, but a brief summary of the origin and how i have approach this task.

The phrase 'Back To Square One' originated from football commentary, before we had TV's, the football pitch was dived int 8 separate squares (1-8) and the commentator would shout out which square the ball was in, so that the listener at home on the radio would know where the ball was on the pitch.
Taking this notion, i have watched a football game and have noted which square the ball moved to throughout the entire game and have taken this information and have designed 2 books. The First Half and the Second Half.

This is just the initial stages of my book, a quick 150pg mock up of how the book will look and feel. From my feedback, i intened to change the cover to a less complicated design and make the overall book for interesting and engaging.
